My Elite Friend

I live in the backseat
Ever the third wheel
Once, I followed you to your home
It was a scary place inside your world
Masked madmen surrounded me
I looked everywhere, but I just couldn't see
Maybe it's wrong, but I wasn't even free
To be whatever the hell I wanted
To be whoever the hell I am
I disappoint you
I know, and it's a beautiful feeling
Soon, your skin starts peeling
You belong on the ground, kneeling
And that's the end of you and yours.

Untitled

The dragon destroys you, so what do you do?
Futile, feeble, and foolish
Meaningless, mesmerized, but murdered
Disarmed, defeated, and delayed
You don't even feel anything
A void where love belongs
I see you, I see you, I see your estrangement
Inane ramblings
It's where no one understands you

But I do, I swear I do.

Just another Manic Monday. Wish it was Sunday. 'Cause that's my fun day. The I-don't-have-to-run day... But if it were Friday, I'd be in love.

It's been a great three day weekend so far. Let's see. Friday after school, Rollins, Viet, and I hit up the comic shop and looked at Magic cards for like 60-90 minutes. We also listened to conversations the hardcore nerds had with each other. It makes me scared to get too deep down into Magic, for fear of becoming like the nerds. Even when I was super hardcore into videogames (and I hope to return to that plateau again someday), I don't think I was ever as nerdy as those nerds. Afterwards, Rollins and I played Magic for a couple hours, watched the 76ers beat the (Orlando) Magic, and hit up the Dos before we went to Glacier Point up in North Davis for a party. Chilled out there for a few hours, and then the Myrtle guys came and the real party started. Hahahaha. Those guys wanted to go bowling at the MUGA, but I went with them. (I hate bowling.) By that time, it was like 12AM, so... My arcade fast ended!!! As soon as it was Feb. 15, I played some CvS2 and beat down some dude with my rusty skills. That was sweet, touching a joystick again after all these weeks. And then, when the MUGA closed, I went to the Myrtle place and played more Magic with the Jigga and Roy. That was probably the best-spent Valentine's Day of my 19 year career.

On Saturday, I thought I was going to get some homework done, but it didn't happen. Woke up crazy late (2PM) and went with Rollins to hang out with Mike the other double A and Roy at the Myrtle place for some more Magic action and some NBA 2K3 on PS2. When it was lunch time, actually technically dinner time, we went to some other hick town (Dixon I think) for some Chevy's (even though I had a bowl of Wheaties, I was feelin' the hunger). Over at Chevy's we saw some of the chicks from Sorority Life who sat directly behind us... Get this... There were young girls up all over 'em askin' for autographs. That's kinda... sad. Well, what can I say? We returned to the Myrtle house where Rollins owned me in a few one vs. one Magic games, and then he peaced out to go check out some comedy night in Sac with some other dudes. Freshman Isaac the Sweet came over, and then we all went to Tommy's crib at KSL to hang out some more. Roy and I were sent to Blockbuster to find a movie to rent. I totally wanted to rent Jesus Christ Superstar or Leprechauns in the Hood, but Tommy wanted to see Mr. Deeds, so we got that instead. After watching that, Roy, Mike, Isaac, and the Jigga Yoon who had made a ninja-like teleportation appearance into KSL returned to the Myrtle house and spent more time doing guy stuff. In other words, we ate snacks, drank soda, watched TV and criticized the programs that were on at 1AM (Superfriends... "great scott!" "jumpin' jellyfish!" "muttering manta!" sooooo awful, even for its time). Then I finally returned to my own apartment and grabbed some much needed sleep.

Yesterday, I woke up late and felt guilty about missing church. Then I remembered that even if I had wanted to go, I had forgotten to ask someone in advance for a ride. Oh well. I spent most of the day doing the things that only NerdDru does. You know, read Gargoyles fanfics and downloaded music. I downloaded a bunch of hip-hop songs. I never thought I'd get into this form of music, but it's growing on me. At least some of it is. I really like Mos Def and Jurassic 5, and some RZA, and Blackalicious, The Roots, Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch... There's still a lot of rap I can't get into, but I do like some of the acts with the East Coast or underground style. I donno, I like a few live instruments or jazzy sounds in the hip-hop I like. I don't think I can EVER get into R&B or techno/trance/dance music, though. By the end of the day yesterday, I read a lot of stories and finished my German homework, aw yeah baby. I know you like that. Ate some pleasant Garlic Bread for dinner and hit the sack at 12:40AM, not bad.

Today, it's time to do some more homework. After reading more Gargoyles stories, that is...

No need for words now.

Magic has been revived. It's cool to be a geek in college.

Attack Of The Angry Nerds. Watch out.

Been wasting away too many late Friday nights/early Saturday mornings. Why? It's killing my sleep and I just accidentally missed class again today. Not good, not good.

The city's sun set over me.

What the hell am I doing here?

'80s power FOREVER. Transformers, Robotech, He-Man, Thundercats, and TMNT... Coming back and better than ever.

-----Top 3 cartoons of the 1990s, in no order-----

My reflection is a dirty mirror
I stare into the sea and find a shark
You know that's not me
Shimmering pain beneath the waves
And a sharp slur that destroys

What is a man?
What is a man?

My defection found a new leader
I stare into the sea and find it stark
You know that's just me
And Ecco soars above the waves
With a Word that purveys

All that is a Man
All that is the Man

My first semi-serious attempt at writing poetry.

"Beneath Bare Bones"

Four eyes, they blink as one
I breathe and then you sigh
The world screams but we are done
Do you realize that I won't die?
In an instant, bright lights blind me
Beyond your fist, start feeling sick
The weight of the world, smothering
All and the blackness is too thick

Othello.

I've never been a Shakespeare fan, and I doubt I ever will be one. Actually, I think drama is one of my least favorite forms of literature. I don't much like poetry, either, but I'd still prefer poetry over drama just because most poetry is shorter than a play. Unless the poetry is something crazy long like the Oddysey or something.

For English class, we had to read Othello. I didn't enjoy it at all. Everyone in this story is a freakin' idiot, except for Iago, the villain. He's the only smart one, and he knows exactly how to manipulate all the other characters. Like a chess game, every other character is a pawn in Iago's bid for glory, and I find it amusing how all the good guys are idiots. Everyone is so shallow (I'd imagine tons of English professors would crucify me for that statement) and uninteresting. They're all so predictable and one-dimensional. I think Othello is one of Shakespeare's worst plays.

Also, I don't understand why Shakespeare's tragedies always had to end with the deaths of the main characters. Kind of takes the suspense out of the entire play, if you ask me. You know that they're gonna die; it isn't really worth it to find out precisely all the steps they go through before they kick off. Man, this sucks, I have to write an 1100-1300 word essay about this bullcrap. Totally lame!! If you ask me, that's where the true tragedy lies... Those of us born in the present age have to suffer reading and writing reports about Shakespeare's crap.
